The talk this week was from Dillys. It was about three important men in the Bible.
The first was Peter. Jesus loved Peter. He was impulsive, cowardly, hot tempered, but kind, insightful and sometimes a little dense. Jesus gave him the opportunity to put right his three denials. Peter's story goes on. He was full of the Holy Spirit. He healed, preached, lead, wrote 2 epistles, and maybe had a hand in Mark's Gospel.
The second John. He remained with him during Jesus' crucification. He was one of the first disciples to reach the tomb. Jesus asked John to care for his mother. John went on to becoming a pillar of the early church. He wrote 3 epistles and possibly Revelation. His character was bold and loving, full of the Holy Spirit, ready to serve his saviour.
The third disciple chosen is Judas Iscariot. We are told he was the son of Simon from Kerioth in Judah. Possibly a Zealot? He is greedy, deceitful, treacherous and selfish. He was in charge of the money. He was annoyed with Mary of Bethany using such expensive ointment on Jesus, when the money could have helped the poor. Because Jesus is not his kind of Messiah; he plots to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, not a lot of money. He then feels sorry for what he has done, but it's too late. The field of blood is still there. Judas, a sad story. Let's never descend into a mindset of envy, anger and resentment. Not getting what we want? Betrayal. And then blame everyone else and everything else. Self pity;then remorse for the situation we have created.
